Elbow Grease Dishwasher Salt – 1kg | Prevents White Marks | Prevents Limescale | Improves Cleaning Performance | Softens Water

Keep your dishwasher running at its best and your dishes sparkling clean with Elbow Grease Dishwasher Salt — the essential dishwasher salt that prevents white marks, prevents limescale, improves cleaning performance, and softens water for better results with every wash. This 1kg bottle provides a generous supply of coarse-grain dishwasher salt to keep your dishwasher’s water softener unit topped up and working effectively. From the trusted Elbow Grease brand.

Dishwasher salt is essential for homes in hard water areas — without it, limescale builds up inside the dishwasher and on dishes, glasses, and cutlery, leaving white marks and reducing the effectiveness of your detergent. Regularly topping up your dishwasher’s salt reservoir keeps the water softener working correctly and protects both your machine and your dishes.

Key Features

  • Prevents White Marks – Stops the white limescale deposits that appear on glasses, dishes, and cutlery
  • Prevents Limescale – Protects the inside of your dishwasher from limescale build-up
  • Improves Cleaning Performance – Softened water allows detergent to work more effectively for cleaner results
  • Softens Water – Regenerates the dishwasher’s built-in water softener unit for optimal performance
  • 1kg – Generous bottle size for multiple refills
  • Elbow Grease Brand – Trusted UK cleaning brand known for powerful, affordable household cleaning
  • Great Value – Essential dishwasher salt at an everyday affordable price

Why Do You Need Dishwasher Salt?

Most dishwashers have a built-in water softener unit that removes the minerals (calcium and magnesium) from hard water before it enters the wash cycle. This water softener uses ion exchange resin that needs to be regularly regenerated using coarse-grain dishwasher salt. Without salt, the resin becomes saturated and stops working — hard water then passes through the machine, causing limescale build-up inside the dishwasher and leaving white marks on glasses and dishes. Dishwasher salt is not the same as table salt — it is a coarser, purer grade of sodium chloride specifically designed for dishwasher water softener units.

Particularly Important in Hard Water Areas

The UK has significant regional variation in water hardness. Areas including London, the South East, East Anglia, and the East Midlands have particularly hard water with high mineral content. In these areas, dishwasher salt is essential — without it, limescale will build up rapidly inside the machine and on dishes. Even in softer water areas, using dishwasher salt helps maintain cleaning performance and protects the machine.

How to Use

  • Locate the salt reservoir in the bottom of your dishwasher – it is usually a screw-cap compartment in the floor of the machine
  • Unscrew the cap and pour the dishwasher salt directly into the reservoir using the funnel provided with your dishwasher (if applicable)
  • Replace the cap securely and run a wash cycle immediately to flush any spilled salt from the machine
  • Top up when the salt indicator light on your dishwasher illuminates
  • Do not put dishwasher salt in the detergent compartment – it goes in the dedicated salt reservoir only

Important Information

  • For use in dishwashers only – do not use as table salt or for cooking
  • Do not put in the detergent or rinse aid compartment – salt reservoir only
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Store in a cool, dry place
  • Check your dishwasher manual for the recommended salt setting for your water hardness level
